Donny Shimamoto, CPA.CITP
Donny C. Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, is the founder of ITK and the leader of ITK's auditing and consulting practice. Donny’s diversity of experience in financial & systems risk management, program management, technical architecture and application development, systems management, business process improvement & engineering, organizational development (including structure and alignment), and knowledge management (including change management and role & competency management) provides the basis for ITK's unique methodologies and project approach.
Donny was the first Certified Information Technology Professional (CPA.CITP) in the State of Hawaii, and is one of only three in the state. The CITP credential is a specialty designation of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), that identifies Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) with the unique ability to bridge between business and technology; meeting the strict requirements for a CPA license as well as additional training and experience in: technology strategic planning, IT architecture, business process enablement, system development and acquisition, IT audit and control, and IT governance.
Donny is a recognized leader and technology expert within the national CPA community. He is a current member of the AICPA’s Assurance Services Executive Committee; served three years on the AICPA’s IT Executive Committee; has authored numerous articles and white papers on IT-related topics for the AICPA and Hawaii Society of CPAs (HSCPA); and is a frequent speaker for AICPA national conferences and webinars. He was recognized as one of the top 40 Under 40 CPAs by CPA Technology Advisor Magazine in 2007 and 2009, and received the HSCPA 2009-2010 President’s Award.
Because of his demonstrated IT expertise and balanced IT-business perspective, Donny was also asked to serve on the AICPA’s IT Section Risk Based Auditing Working Group, which developed IT practice guidance for the assessment and evaluation of audit risk related to IT in response updated Statements of Auditing Standards (SAS) 104-111; IT Competency Model Task Force, which is developed a model for use by CPAs to measure their level of knowledge and skills in a variety of IT practice areas, and facilitate career planning and professional development; and to be part of the steering committee of the AICPA’s national technology conference, TECH+, focusing on the areas of Performance Management and Business Intelligence.

On the IT side, Donny is an incoming national board director for the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and is currently President of AITP’s Honolulu Chapter. He is also a member of the Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA); and was recognized in 2004 as a Top High Tech Leader by the Pacific Technology Foundation and Technology News Network.
Donny obtained invaluable knowledge and exposure to a wide range of organizations (retail, hospitality, state government, defense, and higher education) while earning his CPA license as a member of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's Business Assurance Services, Operational & Systems Risk Management Services, and Management Consulting Services lines of business. With ITK he has expanded his industry expertise to include not-for-profit (social services and membership organizations), professional services, small businesses, and mobile professionals.
